The official currency is the Azerbaijani Manat (AZN). Modern banking meets traditional bazaars.
Banknotes come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 manats. Coins (qəpik) are in 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, and 50.
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, a 10-15% service charge is sometimes included. If not, a 10% tip is standard for good service.
Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Baku and major cities. ATMs are available everywhere. However, it's wise to carry cash for small shops and rural areas.
You can exchange money at banks, airports, and exchange bureaus. Banks usually offer the best rates. US Dollars and Euros are the easiest to exchange.
Apple Pay and Google Pay are becoming increasingly popular and are accepted at many terminals in Baku.
